BOX SCORE | CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Second-seeded Charlotte scored four unearned runs with two outs in the seventh inning and held off a ninth inning Richmond rally to top the Spiders 6-5 in game two of the 2013 A-10 Baseball Championship.

Charlotte advances to take on the winner of the Rhode Island and La Salle game at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Spiders will play the loser of that contest in an elimination game on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.

With the game knotted at 1-1 in the fifth inning, Richmond pushed across a pair of runs, which included a two-out RBI single by Tyler Beckwith that plated Jacob Mayers to give the Spiders a 3-2 advantage.

With a runner on third and two outs in the Charlotte seventh inning, Richmond appeared to have escaped the threat when it forced a groundball off the bat of Shane Basen, but a throwing error allowed the tying run to score and Basen to reach safely.

Basen stole second and scored on a double by Brad Elwood to give the 49ers a 4-3 lead. Justin Seager followed with a double to score Elwood and make it 5-3. A Tony Montabano single scored Seager to push the 49er advantage to 6-3.

In the ninth inning, Richmond got a pair of two out RBIs from Jansen Fraser and Cory Moheit to pull within one at 6-5, but that would be as close as the Spiders would get as Ryan Mas was able to get Mike Small to groundout with the tying run on third and end the game.

Wes Hatley got the win for Charlotte after tossing 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, evening his record at 2-2. Mas picked up fourth save of the season, while Zach Grossfeld took the loss, dropping his record to 0-2 on the year.
