PHILADELPHIA, PA - Fordham righthander Cory Riordan has been named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, selected by Collegiate Baseball, it was announced on Wednesday.
At 10-4, Riordan became the first Fordham pitcher to win 10 games in a season since Paul Darrigo in 1998 and the first to throw two complete-game shutouts in a year since Joe Maniscalco in 1991. He also had an earned run average of 3.61 en route to being named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year.
The Killingworth, CT, resident fanned 66 batters in 87.1 innings pitched while holding opposing hitters to a .226 average. Riordan also tossed a team-high four complete games in leading the Rams to school records in wins (34) and A-10 victories (17).
