PHILADELPHIA, PA - Atlantic 10 commissioner Linda Bruno announced the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2005 semester, honoring each student-athlete in the Atlantic 10 with a 3.5 grade point average or better.
"It is an honor to recognize these student-athletes who truly exemplify what the college experience is all about," says Bruno. "Their commitment to excellence on and off the playing field is inspiring and should serve as an example to all."
In the Fall of 2004, the Presidents Council of the Atlantic 10 Conference changed the parameters of the Commissioner's Honor Roll. Now, the Honor Roll will be announced at the end of each semester and will consist of student-athletes with grade point averages of 3.5 or better for that semester. Previously, one honor roll, encompassing the entire year, was announced, consisting of student-athletes with a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better.
"The Presidents Council felt that by changing the parameters of Commissioner's Honor Roll that it would be more consistent with what our institutions due on their own campuses regarding their Dean's Lists," explains Bruno. "By citing grade point averages for just the most recently-completed semester, it allows student-athletes a greater chance of being honored. Now, one or two semesters won't influence whether or not you earn Commissioner's Honor Roll status.
"I am pleased that our presidents took such an active role in this important honor."
