Essence Brown serves as Director of Basketball Engagement for the Atlantic 10 Conference, where she supports the administration and operations of the league’s men’s and women’s basketball programs. In her role, she assists with conference scheduling, policy and procedure development, officiating logistics, league meetings, Media Day, and the A-10 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships. She also works closely with coaches, student-athletes, administrators, and external partners while maintaining a visible presence across member campuses.
Brown brings experience in student-athlete development, championship operations, and college basketball to the Atlantic 10. She previously served as a Don DiJulia Fellow with the Conference, supporting the execution of the men’s and women’s basketball championships and coordinating event logistics involving member institutions, sponsors, bands, cheer teams, and venue personnel. She also served as an Academic Advisor at UMBC, providing individualized academic and eligibility support to more than 150 Division I student-athletes.
A former Division I women’s basketball student-athlete and team captain at George Washington University, Brown was selected to the program’s Leadership Council and participated in GW Athletics’ Leadership Excellence Academy. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychological and Brain Sciences with a minor in Management and Leadership and a master’s degree in management with a certificate in Sport Management from George Washington.
