San Antonio, TX – Former La Salle head men's basketball coach Paul Westhead was honored with the Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the NBA Finals on Friday. Westhead is the 21st honoree of the Daly award.

Westhead coached La Salle men's basketball from 1970-79. During his nine years at the helm, the Philadelphia native amassed a record of 142-105 while also serving as a professor in the English department. Westhead led the Explorers to two NCAA tournaments and an NIT while leading La Salle to seven winning seasons.

Westhead parlayed his time at 20th and Olney into a long and successful career in professional basketball, highlighted by his leading the Showtime Lakers, featuring Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, to the 1980 NBA championship. Westhead was hired by the Phoenix Mercury in 2005 and guided star Diana Taurasi and the team to the WNBA title. He would go on to coach for six NBA franchises, as well as several college and WNBA teams in over 40 years in the profession. Westhead is the only coach to win both NBA and WNBA championships. He was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.
