ST. LOUIS – No. 5 seed Saint Joseph’s kept its championship hopes alive on Thursday evening, scoring four runs in the seventh inning to take down Saint Louis, 6-3, in an elimination game at the Betterment A-10 Softball Championship.

Both teams scored their first run in the fourth inning, but Saint Louis took a two-run lead in the fifth – thanks in part to a solo homer from Billikens sophomore Kate Proffitt. Saint Joseph’s junior Morgan Lester cut into the deficit with an RBI single in the sixth inning, sending the Hawks to the final frame trailing 3-2.

Saint Joseph’s loaded the bases with a pair of singles and a walk, tying the game on Jenna Currie’s ensuing sacrifice fly. Haley McMenamin drove in two runs on a well-hit ball to center field, before freshman Grace Brown sent another baserunner home with a clutch double – putting the Hawks ahead 6-3.

Pitching four scoreless innings in relief, Saint Joseph’s senior Taylor Trowbridge earned the win on the mound. Trowbridge allowed just three hits and one walk, striking out three batters in the process.

The Hawks advance to an elimination game against top-seeded Loyola Chicago at 12:30 p.m. CT on Friday at Billiken Sports Center.
