WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Dayton junior Deirdre Flaherty as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week. George Mason sophomore Abbey Lane was named Pitcher of the Week, while George Mason freshman Bri Lencz earned Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for games played from March 30 to April 5.
 
Flaherty shined offensively for the Flyers last week, slashing .538/.600/.923 over four games. The catcher from Pittsburgh began the week with one hit and one run at Providence, before opening the team’s conference series at Rhode Island with two hits in Friday’s first game. Flaherty helped Dayton clinch the series on Saturday with a three-hit performance, recording four RBIs and a home run.
 
Lane started two games for the Patriots, earning victories in both without allowing a single earned run. The Round Hill, Va. native tossed a six-inning shutout in the first game of George Mason’s conference series with St. Bonaventure, striking out four batters in the 6-0 triumph. Lane pitched three innings in Saturday’s series finale, allowing just two hits and one walk as the Patriots took down the Bonnies, 5-2.
 
Lencz also made two starts in the circle, and came away with two winning decisions as well. The first-year from Annandale, Va. gave up just one hit in five dominant innings of action against Maryland Eastern Shore, striking out eight batters in a 6-0 triumph. Lencz added six more scoreless innings in the second game of Friday’s doubleheader against St. Bonaventure, leading the Patriots to 6-2 win. After Lane’s strong start, Lencz provided 2.0 innings of relief – surrendering her only earned run of the week but maintaining the Patriots’ lead.
