WASHINGTON, D.C. – For the first time in program history, George Washington advanced to the WNIT Great Eight with a 71-62 home win over A-10 foe Loyola Chicago on Friday evening. Revolutionaries head coach Ganiyat Adeduntan became the first coach in the team’s history to win three postseason games in their first year at the helm of the program.
George Washington junior Sara Lewis flirted with a triple double to lead the Revolutionaries, posting 25 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists while contributing three steals. Sophomore Gabby Reynolds added 20 points as well, knocking down five of her six 3-point attempts.
Loyola Chicago shot 56.2 percent from behind the arc – its best clip of the season. Alexus Mobley led the Ramblers with 19 points and two steals, while Rosalie Mercille contributed 11 points off the bench and Alexa Kinas posted 11 points, four assists, and four steals.
George Washington led 48-42 entering the fourth quarter, building up a 15-point advantage a few minutes later after a Reynolds 3-pointer. The Ramblers stormed back, though, hitting five triples in the final period to pull within four points. The Revolutionaries held on with several clutch baskets in the final three minutes of play.
With the victory, George Washington moves on to face Illinois State in the WNIT Great Eight on Monday, Mar. 30 at 6:30 p.m. ET in Normal, Ill.
