Cochran Named A-10 Under Armour Player of the Week; Brown Earns Rookie Nod

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Rhode Island graduate student Tyler Cochran the Under Armour Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Davidson freshman Devin Brown was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 2-8.
 
In Rhody's lone game of the week, Cochran scored a career-high 34 points and added 10 rebounds, two steals and one assist to lead Rhode Island to an 82-77 win over Richmond. A guard from Bollingbrook, Ill., he was 15-for-17 (.882) at the free throw line, 3-for-6 (.500) from 3-point range and 8-for-13 (.615) from the field overall. He scored 23 of his points in the second half.
 
Brown scored 21 points across two games this past week, averaging 10.5 points per game while shooting 53.8 percent from the field (7-of-13), and 50 percent from 3-point range (5-of-10) while pulling down 4.5 rebounds per game. A guard from Lewis Center, Ohio, his best performance was versus No. 19 Saint Louis when he had 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Josh Scovens had a strong week for Davidson, averaging 15.5 points on .684 shooting, which included a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double where he shot 7-for-10 (.700) against No. 19 Saint Louis  … Dayton’s Amael L’etang also averaged 15.5 points per game and recorded a 15-point, 13 rebound game at VCU, part of a 9.0 rebounding average for the week … Jahari Long scored 20 points versus Saint Joseph’s, part of a week in which he averaged 18.5 points and 3.0 assists while posting a perfect 7-for-7 performance at the line … George Washington’s Jean Aranguren tallied the first triple-double in the A-10 2001 with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists at Duquesne  … Buddy Simmons II went 10-for-15 (.667) and 3-for-4 (.750) en route to 23 points with five assists in a thrilling St. Bonaventure win at Fordham  … Bonnies freshman Andrew Osasuyi had 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting (.857) along with five blocks in the win at Fordham … Saint Joseph’s Jaiden Glover-Toscano went 8-for-9 (.889) form the field and an eye-popping 5-of-6 (.833) from the arc to score 23 points in a win over George Washington … Hawks rookie Austin Williford had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists at George Mason, also collecting two steals, part of a five-steal week … Robbie Avila recorded a 17-point, five-rebound, six-assists performance in a Saint Louis win at Davidson, and he averaged 7.0 assists per game for the Billikens.
