WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized George Mason senior Tess Altevers Harris as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week. Dayton senior Izzy Kemp was named Pitcher of the Week, while Patriots freshman Payton Auerbach earned Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for games played from Feb. 5 to Feb. 8.
Altevers Harris began the season with an impressive .533/.632/.933 slash line across five games at the Charleston Invitational. The San Diego native went 8-for-15 with three doubles and one home run, racking up four RBIs and scoring three runs. The infielder also shined on the basepaths (five stolen bases) and defensively (11 assists, no errors), helping George Mason earn two victories against strong competition.
Kemp worked a total of 11.1 innings over three appearances, recording one win, one combined shutout, and one save. The right-handed-pitcher from Westfield, Ind. allowed just two runs total, both in a six-inning start against Western Michigan. Kemp allowed just one hit in four innings of action at Presbyterian while recording 10 strikeouts, racking up 23 strikeouts across the weekend.
Auerbach began her collegiate career in spectacular fashion, recording a .375 batting average. The Williamsburg, Va. native recorded five RBIs on six hits, racking up six hits, three stolen bases, and three runs. Defensively, Auerbach recorded four putouts and nine assists without making an error.
