HOPEWELL, N.J. – Saint Joseph's senior standout Gabby Casey has been named to the 25-player watch list for the 2027 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, presented by Her Hoop Stats, as announced Wednesday.
The Becky Hammon Award was first given out in 2020, and this year's watch list includes representatives from 21 teams and 16 conferences. The Ivy League, Metro Conference and Missouri Valley Conference lead the way with three selections apiece, while the Pac-12, Patriot League and UAC each have two.
Casey is the lone Atlantic 10 representative after a standout junior campaign in which she led the Hawks in scoring (15.7 points per game), rebounding (6.4 per game) and steals (1.6 per game). She earned Second Team All-Atlantic 10 and First Team All-Big 5 honors after becoming one of just four players nationally to average at least 15 points, six rebounds and three assists per game while shooting at least 45% from the field and 40% from three-point range.
The Quakertown, Pa., native enters the 2026-27 season three games shy of 100 career appearances and 156 points away from becoming the 32nd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Casey is also 85 rebounds and 59 assists shy of becoming just the sixth player in program history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 250 assists.
Award Eligibility & Schedule
To be eligible for this award, players must compete in a conference deemed to be "mid-major." The following conferences are considered high-major for the purposes of this award and thus ineligible: ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, and SEC. Players competing in the re-formed Pac-12 are eligible.
The 15-player midseason watch list will be announced in January, followed by 10 semifinalists announced in February. The five finalists will be announced in early March, with the winner announced around the Final Four. The list is fluid, and players may play their way on or off it over the course of the season.
