Simpson Chosen as Under Armour Player of the Week; Argabright Repeats as Rookie

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph’s senior Derek Simpson the Under Armour Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Richmond freshman Aiden Argabright was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 19-25.
 
Simpson shined again this week in a pair of games for the Hawks, averaging 23.5 points and 6.5 assists per game while also connecting on better than 55 percent from the floor. On Monday against VCU, he delivered a career-high 27 points, going 10-for-16 from the field overall, including 5-for-7 from the line, adding four assists and a steal. In a win against Dayton on Saturday, the guard from Mount Laurel, N.J., poured in 20 points and dished nine assists. Overall for the week, he shot 15-for-27 (55.6 percent) from the floor, 8-for-14 (57.1 percent) from three-point range and was 9-for-10 at the free throw line. It marks the second Player of the Week award for Simpson this season.
 
 
Argabright claimed his third A-10 Rookie of thew Week honor by averaging 17 points and 2.5 assists in two games last week. The guard from Richmond, Va., scored team-high 20 points versus Rhode Island, shooting 5-for-10 (.500) from the field and .750 (3-of-4) from 3-point range. He also added three assists and four steals. He then chipped in 14 points at George Washington, with two assists, hitting four field goals, two of which came from beyond the arc. For the week, he shot .474 (9-of-19) from the field, 5-of-8 (.625) from 3-point range and an impressive 11-for-12 (.917) at the line.

Josh Scovens averaged 17 points and 2.5 steals while shooting 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field in a split week for Davidson … Jimmie Williams averaged 22.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals across two games for Duquesne, including his first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds versus Loyola Chicago … Garrett Johnson scored 18 points on 8-of-12 (.667) shooting in George Washington’s rivalry battle at George Mason, part of a week in which he averaged 15 points four rebounds and two assists … La Salle’s Jaeden Marshall scored 25 points on 7-of-11 (.636) from the field and 4-for-7 (.571) from beyond the arc in the Explorers’ win over Dayton … Rhode Island’s Tyler Cochran had two monster games to lead the Rams to a 2-0 week, with 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals at Richmond, followed by 20 points, on 5-of-8 (.625) shooting in an upset of George Mason ... Darryl Simmons II scored 26 points and tallied three assists in St. Bonaventure’s win over Loyola Chicago, followed by a 12-point outing versus Saint Louis … Saint Louis’ Ishan Sharma went for 29 points thanks in part to a school-record-tying nine 3-pointers at St. Bonaventure, the most treys by a player in the A-10 this year, and he 10-of-14 (.714) from the floor and 9-of-12 (.750) from 3 in the win.
