WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph’s senior Derek Simpson the Under Armour Men's Basketball Player of the Week. His freshman teammate Austin Williford was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 5-11
 
Simpson had the first two double-doubles of his career, averaging 21.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game during a 2-0 week for the Hawks. In an overtime win against Duquesne on Wednesday, the guard from Mt. Laurel, N.J., tied a career high with 23 points and dished 11 assists, adding a block and four steals. The 11 assists is the most by a single player in the A-10 this season. At Richmond on Sunday, he scored 19, including the 1,000th point of his career to go along with personal bests of 13 rebounds and five three-pointers.
 
Williford, a guard from Charlottesville, Va., averaged 14.0 points and shot 11-for-19 from the floor during a 2-0 week for the Hawks. Against Duquesne on Wednesday, he tallied a career high 16 points and had two steals in a win against Duquesne. He also scored the go-ahead basket in overtime, beating the shot clock, giving SJU the lead to stay. On Sunday, he scored 12 in a homecoming game at Richmond.

Parker Friedrichsen scored 27 points on 8-of-11 (.727) shooting, including 6-for-8 (.750) from 3-point range with three steals in Davidson’s win at Loyola Chicago … Dajour Reaves averaged 23.5 points and 5.5 assists in a 1-1 week for Fordham, including an impressive 31-point, six assist game where he was 12-for-12 at the line to lead the Rams to a road win at St. Bonaventure … Riley Allenspach shot .682 (15-for-22),  to average 17.0 points in two George Mason wins, highlighted by a 7-for-8 (.875) key victory versus VCU … Trey Dinkins had 24 points at Dayton, sinking five triples for George Washington, with a .625 (5-for-8) percentage form beyond the arc versus the Flyers … Rhode Island’s Jonah Hinton averaged 16.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game over two contests, shooting 9-for-18 (.500) from 3-point range ... Keeyan Itejere scored a season-high 18 points on 9-of-11 (.818) shooting to lead Rhode Island to a win at Davidson, averaging 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds over two games … Richmond’s Aiden Argabright averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 assists per game in a split week for the Spiders, with a 15-point, five- assist performance versus Saint Joseph’s … Kellen Thames had an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double with three assists and a steal, shooting .700 (7-of-10) in a Saint Louis win at VCU.
