WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond senior Maggie Doogan as the Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Loyola Chicago freshman Alex-Anne Bessette and Saint Louis freshman Alyssa Koerkenmeier was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Jan. 5 - Jan. 11.

Doogan put on a show this week, delivering one of the greatest single-game performances the league has ever seen. The forward from Broomall, Pa. averaged 33.0 points, 11.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists per game across a pair of victories, shooting 58.5 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from behind the arc, and 88.9 percent at the free throw line. After leading the Spiders to an 84-65 win over Fordham with an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double, Doogan exploded for 48 points and 13 rebounds in a 91-84 triple overtime triumph over Davidson. Shooting 17-of-28 from the field and 8-of-12 from behind the arc, Doogan’s 48 points marked the highest scoring performance in A-10 women’s basketball history and the most in Division I this season, eclipsing Iowa State star Audi Crooks’ 47-point showing earlier in the year.

Bessette helped Loyola Chicago get back in track in league play with a pair of wins last week, averaging 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor and 36.4 percent from 3-point range. The guard from Quebec City, Canada logged 12 points and four rebounds in a 71-68 victory at Dayton before leading the team to a 71-64 win over Saint Louis on Sunday with a game-high 20 points to go with six rebounds, two assists and one block.

Koerkenmeier continued to dominate the paint for Saint Louis, averaging 12.5 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per contest across two games last week while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and 100 percent at the free throw line. The center from St. Rose, Ill. registered 11 points and 13 rebounds against VCU, shooting 5-of-8 from the field. Koerkenmeier tallied another double double at Loyola Chicago, posting 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks.
