WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference named Fordham senior Daniel D’Ippolito the Under Armour Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while VCU junior Trevor Maloney earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Dayton freshman Farouq Ogundare was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Sep. 8-14.
D’Ippolito, a midfielder from Baldwin Place, N.Y., had a hand in all four Fordham goals this week with one goal and three assists for five points. D’Ippolito scored the first goal of a 3-0 win over Manhattan on Tuesday, assisting on the other two. He also found Luke Pompliano for the first goal of a 1-1 draw with Rhode Island in the Rams’ conference opener on Saturday.
Maloney, a goalkeeper from Norfolk, Va, led VCU to a 2-0 week on the road, highlighted by a headline-grabbing upset at No. 2 Clemson on Tuesday. Maloney made three saves in the 2-1 victory over the Tigers, the second highest ranked win in program history. He posted the first clean sheet of his career with four saves in a 1-0 triumph at Penn on Friday as well.
Ogundare, a forward from Kampala, Uganda, contributed a goal and an assist in Dayton’s 3-1 home win over Saint Joseph’s on Saturday. Ogundare connected with Ethan Sassine within the game’s first 90 seconds, adding a score of his own before the 16-minute mark.
