WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference named Duquesne senior Maya Matesa as its Under Armour Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Dayton senior goalkeeper Batoul Reda earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Richmond freshman Emma Newman was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Aug. 14-17.

Matesa provided a pair of goals in a 3-2 road victory at Kent State to open the season, including the game-winner on a penalty kick. Trailing 2-0 entering the second half, Matesa got the Dukes on the board at 68:16 to cut Duquesne’s deficit in half. Duquesne completed the comeback by converting on a pair of penalty kicks within a 46-second span. Matesa’s second score gave her the game-winning goal, the fourth of her career and first since her sophomore season.

Reda kicked off the 2025 campaign with a pair of shutouts last week, including a 0-0 draw on the road at No. 12 Michigan State. The Dearborn, Mich. Native turned away the only shot she faced on goal in the season opener, a 2-0 road victory at Wright State, and once again stood tall to the task against two shots from the Spartans in the draw.

Newman made an immediate impact in her first collegiate week, scoring four goals and adding an assist in Richmond’s season-opening 5-0 win over VMI, tying the program’s single-game scoring record. She tallied a team-high eight shots in the victory with seven on goal and netted the game-winner. The freshman followed with four more shots, including two on frame, in the Spiders’ 1-0 setback to Coastal Carolina.
