AMHERST, MASS. - The  Minutewomen head to Baltimore for the 2025 NCAA Tournament, playing in the first round against Princeton on Friday, May 9 at Homewood Field. The matchup will be broadcast on ESPN+ with links and live updates available on umassathletics.com or UMassLacrosse on Twitter. 
This week for the Minutewomen
THE MAtchup
  • Friday's NCAA First Round match-up marks the third meeting between the two programs, with the all-time series record sitting at 1-1.
  • Both meetings between Massachusetts and Princeton have come in the NCAA First Round with Princeton claiming the previous matchup 15-9 in New Jersey.
  • The Minutewomen claimed the first matcup between the two teams, claiming a 13-12 overtime win on May 13, 2016 in Ithaca, New York.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Massachusetts women's lacrosse secured it's 12th Atlantic 10 Championship with a 15-4 victory over Saint Joseph's on Sunday, May 4 at Robins Stadium. The win marks the first A-10 Tournament Title since 2021 for the Minutewomen, while sweeping both the outright regular season and tournament championships for the first time since 2017. 
  • The Minutewomen were led offensively by a trio of hat tricks from Ava Connaughton, Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw and Tessa Shields. Shields recorded a game-high seven points adding a pair of assists on top of her three goals.  
  • Kassidy Morris tallied two goals on the day, giving her nine points on seven goals and two assists for the A-10 championship. 
  • Jordan Dean put together another well-rounded performance, leading the Minutewomen in ground ball (5), draw controls (5) and caused turnovers (2).
  • Overall, five Minutewomen were selected to the A-10 All-Tournament team in a post-game ceremony, including Kassidy Morris who received the Championship's Most Outstanding Player. Connaughton, Rodriguez-Shaw, Shields and Dean each joined Morris on the All-Championship Team, receiving recognition for their play over the championship weekend. 
Ncaa history
  • The Massachusetts women's lacrosse program clinched their 16th overall NCAA Tournament appearance on selection Sunday, marking the first NCAA appearance for the program since 2023 and 12th in the last 17 seasons.
  • Massachusetts owns an overall record of 11-14 (.440) in the NCAA Tournament and a 5-7 (.416) mark in the first round.
  • The Minutewomen advanced to the first ever NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship Final in 1982, claiming a 9-6 victory over TCNJ in the inaugural championship. The matchup is the lone NCAA Championship game appearance and victory for Massachusetts.
  • Massachusetts holds a 1-1 record all-time against Princeton in NCAA Tournament competition, last facing the Tigers on May 13, 2022 in the opening round.
  • Massachusetts has advanced to the NCAA second round on six occasions (1983, '84, 2013, '15, '16, '17) and one elite eight appearances in 2016.
On the Sideline
  • Head Coach Jana Drummond enters her third season at the helm of the Minutewomen, holding a career record of 44-11 (.800). Drummond has coached the Minutewomen to the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship in all three seasons, coaching five major conference award winners.
  • Assistant Lia Laprise enters her second season in Amherst, coming to UMass after a standout career at UConn, where she finished her career as the program's all-time leader in points and assists.
  • Assistant Avergy Giorgio begins her tenure with the Minutewomen after two stints as an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Trinity College. A former Division I Lacrosse player at Holy Cross and assistant at both the club level and Trinity College, Giorgio brings immense experience to the Massachusetts program.
  • Program alum Kendra Harbinger returns as Director of Player Development after playing her graduate season with the Minutewomen in 2022. Harbinger earned IWLCA Second-Team All-Region and second-team all-league honors in 2022 after leading Mass in points with 62 and goals with 49.
