WASHINGTON – The fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks rallied in the sixth inning to upset No. 4 George Washington 6-1 in an Atlantic 10 Softball Championship elimination game. The Hawks will advance to an elimination game against the second-seeded Saint Louis Billikens at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Hawks faced a one-run deficit in the sixth inning. Hailey Peterson singled in the tying run to drive in Meghan Sinkus. Jenna Currie doubled in Peterson and Morgan Lester to give the Hawks the lead.
Saint Joseph’s sealed the victory in the seventh. Peterson crushed a three-run shot to left-center field for the five-run advantage.
Taylor Trowbridge pitched 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. She registered four strikeouts without allowing a walk and surrendered eight hits.
In the first inning, the Revolutionaries scratched a run in on Emi Todoroki’s single. Todoroki’s base hit plated Cadence Gilliland.
Anna Reed was tagged for two runs across 5 2/3 innings. She surrendered seven hits, recorded two strikeouts and walked one.
