No. 5 Saint Joseph's Rally to Win 4-3 Over No. 6 Loyola Chicago

WASHINGTON – The fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks rallied in the sixth inning to come back and defeat the sixth-seeded Loyola Chicago Ramblers 4-3 on Wednesday. The Hawks will move on to an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Thursday. 

The Hawks’ lead evaporated in the top of the sixth. The Ramblers’ Abby Johnson doubled to knot the game at three. Riley Owens drove in Johnson to give Loyola a one-run advantage.  

In the bottom half of the frame, Saint Joseph’s tied it at three. The Hawks’ Kayla Tauber connected for a sacrifice fly for the tying-run. Sarah Cancila then followed with the game-winning hit and scored Hailey Peterson.  

Jules Scogna pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, in her start. She registered five strikeouts, walked two and surrendered seven hits. Taylor Trowbridge pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the save. 

Andie Broniewicz allowed two runs across four innings for the Ramblers. She struck out four batters and walked two.  

Saint Joseph’s will match up against the lower seed of the loser of game four or game five.
