Six-Run Fifth Inning Fuels No. 3 Fordham in 8-1 Win Over No. 6 Loyola Chicago

WASHINGTON – The third-seeded Fordham Rams used a six-run fifth inning to capture an 8-1 victory over the sixth-seeded Loyola Chicago Ramblers. The Rams will meet the second-seeded Saint Louis Billikens on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at George Washington Softball Field.  

The Rams held onto a one-run lead as they entered the bottom of the fifth inning. Neleh Nogay scored on a fielder’s choice and Sydney Wells later scored on a pass ball. Kate McGuire then singled in Nicki Sudall.  

Erin Hoppe continued the frame with an RBI single. McGuire and Hoppe would later score to cap off the Rams’ six-spot.  

Holly Beeman pitched a one-run complete game for the Rams. She allowed one run on two hits. She registered two strikeouts and walked two to record the win.  

The Ramblers got on the board first in the second inning. Loyola Chicago infielder Nat Lesnicki was driven in on an error by Fordham. The Rams responded in the fourth inning when Wells scored to tie it at one. Fordham then took the lead on a walk, which plated McClellan.  

Peyton Pepkowski was tagged for six runs on eight hits. She struck out four and walked two.  

The Ramblers face the fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in an elimination game.
