WASHINGTON – George Washington infielder Madi Mays drove in the game-winning run to lift the fourth-seeded George Washington Revolutionaries to a 2-1 win over the fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s Hawks. The Revolutionaries will face the top-seeded Dayton Flyers at 12 p.m. on Thursday at George Washington Softball Field.
George Washington and Saint Joseph’s were locked at one in the fifth inning. Mays connected for a single to drive in Cadence Gilliand.
The Revolutionaries scored first in the second inning on a fielder’s choice by Allison Heffley. Carolyn Skotz scored on Heffley’s fielder’s choice. Saint Joseph’s responded with a solo home run by Hailey Peterson in the third inning.
Cece Smith pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to pick up the win. Smith struck out four and walked two in her relief appearance. Anna Reed, the A-10 Pitcher of the Year, was credited the save after she pitched two scoreless innings with one walk and one strikeout.
Saint Joseph's right-handed putcher Taylor Trowbridge allowed two runs across six innings. Trowbridge struck out three and walked four.
The Hawks will play in the elimination game Wednesday at 5 p.m. and will meet the loser of the No. 3 Fordham and No. 6 Loyola Chicago game.
