WASHINGTON – Karsen Jany blasted a solo home run to lead the second-seeded Saint Louis Billikens to a 1-0 extra-innings defeat of the top-seeded Dayton Flyers on Friday at George Washington Softball Field. The Billikens will face the third-seeded Fordham Rams in the Atlantic 10 Softball Championship at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
Locked at zero with two hits each, the Billikens and Flyers went into the top of the 10th inning tied at zero. With one out, Jany connected with the game-winning home run to left field.
The Billikens’ Isabel Royle retired the final three Flyers in the bottom of the 10th for the extra-innings victory. Royle was dominant on the mound for the Billikens. She pitched a 10-inning shutout with 12 strikeouts, while limiting Dayton to two hits and four walks.
Izzy Kemp pitched a gem for the Flyers. Kemp allowed one run over 9 2/3 innings with 14 strikeouts and five walks. She held Saint Louis to three hits.
The Billikens face the third-seeded Fordham Rams on Saturday in the Atlantic 10 Championship game, which will be streamed on ESPN+. The winner of Saturday’s game will receive the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
