WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Fordham senior Sydney Wells and Dayton senior Chloe Wong as its Under Armour Softball Co-Players of the Week. Saint Joseph’s junior Taylor Trowbridge received Pitcher of the Week and St. Bonaventure freshman Mackenzie Frani earned Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Monday, are for games played from April 14 to April 20.
Wong led Dayton with a 6 for 10 (.600) performance at the plate. In the Flyers’ Wednesday contest against No. 24 Ohio State, she was a perfect 2 for 2 at the plate with a home run and two RBI. Wong, a Modesto, Calif. native, followed with a two hit, four RBI performance in the series opener against Fordham. Her four RBI matched a career high. Wong, an infielder, had three consecutive multi-hit games along with a .667 on-base clip and a 1.300 slugging percentage. She finished the four-game stretch with seven RBI, four runs scored and two home runs.
Wells batted .583 with a 1.833 slugging percentage in four games for Fordham. She had two multi home run games against the Flyers and finished the week with five home runs. Wells, a catcher from Selah, Wash., drove in nine RBI over the four-game stretch. She also scored five runs and tallied a hit in all four games for the Rams.
Trowbridge, a Mesa, Ariz. native, tossed two complete game shutouts against George Washington, which helped Saint Joseph’s secure a three-game sweep of the Revolutionaries. In the first game of Friday’s doubleheader, she scattered five hits and struck out a season-high tying seven batters in a 6-0 SJU victory. On Saturday, Trowbridge took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and surrendered one hit with three strikeouts. In two games, Trowbridge went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, surrendered six hits, walked two and registered 10 strikeouts.
Frani pitched 18 innings and secured two wins for St. Bonaventure. On Monday against Massachusetts, Frani allowed two runs over six innings with four strikeouts. In St. Bonaventure’s second game of a doubleheader versus Rhode Island, she tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on three hits and struck out four. The Liverpool, N.Y. native capped off her week with her second win over Rhode Island on Saturday. Frani worked 5.1 innings, fanned one and scattered seven hits. She pitched to a 1.91 ERA with nine strikeouts in three starts.
