WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton senior forward Arianna Smith as its Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Yahmani McKayle was named the Under Armour Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. The awards were announced Monday and are for final week of regular season games played on February 24 - March 1.
Smith recorded her 12th and 13th double-doubles of the season while averaging 16.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in Dayton's two wins over Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure last week. The senior forward shot 63.2 percent from the field, 81.8 percent from the free throw line, and had 11 offensive rebounds in the two-game stretch. Smith also became the all-time leader in offensive rebounds in program history last week.
McKayle tallied 18 points, 2 assists, and one steal in the Minutewomen win at George Washington, their only game of the week. This is the fourth Rookie of the Week honor this season for the Queens, N.Y. native, the most in the league. The guard shot 6-8 from the free throw line (75%) to help ice the game.
