WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph's sophomore forward Aleah Snead as its Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Duquesne freshman Mackenzie Blackford was named the Under Armour Rookie of the Week for the second time this year. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played on January 27 - Feb 2.
Snead broke her previous career-high in points twice this week after averaging 19.0 points per game, while adding 4.5 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals on 66.7/100.0/66.7 splits. The Philadelphia, Pa. native set a new career-high against Davidson with 22 points (9-for-12), also setting a career-high with five steals and adding four rebounds. The sophomore then registered 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting against George Washington, recording five rebounds. Snead's four assists were one shy of matching a career-high, while recording her first game with multiple three-pointers.
Blackford averaged 14.5 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 rebounds while shooting .500 percent from the field and .467 percent from behind the arc in helping Duquesne stretch its winning steak to four. The freshman started the week with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, with three triples in a 69-59 victory over VCU. The Solon, Ohio native went 2-of-2 from the foul line while totaling three rebounds and three assists in the win. Blackford ended the week by posting 14 points with four three-pointers in an 80-46 victory at St. Bonaventure, finishing with one steal and one assist during the win.
