WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Massachusetts senior Rahsool Diggins and Saint Louis senior Gibson Jimerson as the Under Armour Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. La Salle freshman Deuce Jones was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 27 – Feb. 2.
Diggins continued to be an offensive force averaging 29.5 points and 4.0 rebounds on 53.8 percent (21-for-29) shooting over two games. The guard from Philadelphia powered the Minutemen to a win over Duquesne, scoring 32 points while shooting 11-of-18 (.611) from the field. The senior scored 15 of Massachusetts' final 19 points against the Dukes, going a perfect 4-of-4 from the field and 3-of-3 from three-point range over the final six minutes of the game. He tallied his third game with 30-plus points this season and 11th straight in double digits after dropping 27 points against Rhode Island. It’s the second Player of the Week award this season for Diggins.
Jimerson led the Billikens with 23.5 points per game last week and shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field and 40 percent (6-of-15) rom 3-point range. He also had 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. In the win over first-place VCU, he scored a game-high 26 points and snagged five rebounds and two steals. A guard from Richmond, Va., Jimerson followed that performance with a 21-point effort against Dayton with another two steals, shooting 8-of-14 (.571) from the field. It’s the second A-10 Player of the Week award for the longtime Billiken this season.
Jones scored a career-high 24 point, the most of any freshman in the A-10 this season, versus Fordham on Wednesday. A guard from Trenton, N.J., he also tied his career-highs in steals (4) and field goals made (8) versus the Rams. He followed it up with a 19-point outing to tie for the game-high in Saturday's win over George Washington, he also set a career-high in assists with six. He averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals in winning his fifth A-10 Rookie of the Week honor this season.
