WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Loyola Chicago junior Jayden Dawson the Under Armour Men's Basketball Player of the Week. La Salle freshman Deuce Jones was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 10-16.
Dawson posted back-to-back 20-point performances over two Loyola wins this week. He averaged 25.0 points per game while shooting 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field, 54.4 percent (12-for-22) from three, and perfect at the line. The guard from Omaha added 2.5 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.5 blocks per game. At Richmond, Dawson dropped 24 points in an OT win over the Spiders. He drained six threes and tallied two boards and two assists. Against Saint Louis, Dawson went 10-16 from the field with another six 3-pointers. He added three rebounds, three assists, a steal, and career-high three blocks. Dawson had one turnover over the two games, posting a 5.0 assist to turnover ratio.
Jones averaged 21.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.5 steals in two games last week for the Explorers, He tallied a career-high six steals and recorded a double-double at Rhode Island with 20 points and 11 rebounds, the first double-double by a La Salle freshman since Christian Ray in 2020. Jones, who claimed his sixth A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade, was 7-for-16 (.438) from the field versus the Rams. At Saint Joseph’s, he was 7-of-14 (.500) from the field and 8-for-9 (.889) at the line to finish with 22 points. He also added nine rebounds, two assists and three steals.
