WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named George Mason freshman Maddy Johnson as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week, while Fordham junior Holly Beeman was recognized as Pitcher of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Katharine Heslin received Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, which were announced on Monday, are for games played from Feb. 10 to Feb. 16.
 
Johnson, a shortstop, went 5-for-11 with three extra-base hits, including two home runs at the Tar Heel Invitational. The Haymarket, Va. native had a 1.333 slugging percentage over George Mason’s three games against Drexel, North Carolina and Princeton. Johnson drove in four RBI and scored four runs as the Patriots went 2-2 at the Invitational.
 
Beeman pitched two complete games, including a complete game shutout at the Bobcat Tournament. She allowed three earned runs (five runs) over 14.2 innings against Stephen F Austin and St. Thomas. The Lake Oswego, Ore. native struck out eight, walked five and allowed 11 hits in her two starts.
 
Heslin, a catcher from Lake Hopatcong, N.J., batted .444 at the Texas Tournament. In the Minutewomen’s 10-1 victory over Maryland, she recorded one hit and one run. She went 2-for-2 in UMass’ loss against No. 8 Texas Tech. Over four games and against two top-10 nationally ranked programs, Heslin went 4-for-9 with one double, one run, one walk and an RBI.
