WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Davidson junior Katie Donovan as the Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Louis freshman Jahda Denis was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Dec. 1-7.
Donovan led the Wildcats with a spectacular week, averaging 23.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 4.0 steals per game across two contests. The guard from Queensland, Australia put together an extremely efficient stretch, shooting 60.7 percent from the field, 70.6 percent from behind the arc, and 100 percent from the free throw line across the two matchups. Donovan led the Wildcats to a conference-opening victory over Duquesne on Wednesday, 72-55, tallying 19 points, three rebounds, and three steals with five 3-pointers. She pushed Davidson to a crucial 87-65 nonconference victory over Ball State on Sunday, knocking down 7-of-8 3-point attempts to pour in a career-high 28 points. Donovan also dominated on the defensive end, recording five steals against the Cardinals.
Denis enjoyed a breakthrough week, leading Saint Louis to a pair of victories. The guard from Montreal, Canada averaged 18.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1.0 assists per game across both games, shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 100 percent at the charity stripe. Denis guided the Billikens to a 76-70 win over St. Bonaventure in the team’s league opener, scoring a career high 24 points while recording four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. She kept the momentum going in Saint Louis’ 72-55 triumph against Evansville on Sunday, posting 12 points and four assists.
