Doogan Repeats as Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, Bordas Receives Rookie Accolade

WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond senior Maggie Doogan as the Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Duquesne freshman Alexis Bordas was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Dec. 15-21.

Doogan powered Richmond to a 3-0 week to close non-conference play, averaging 23.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game while shooting 55.6 percent from the field. The forward from Broomall, Pa. started the week with a dominant double double, tallying 26 points, 11 rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block while shooting 9-of-13 from the field as the Spiders crushed Bethune Cookman, 81-45. Doogan opened the 4 Tha Culture Holiday Classc with 15 points and seven rebounds as Richmond cruised to a 72-58 win over Alabama A&M. She led the Spiders to a 70-54 triumph over Big Ten opponent Penn State the next day, posting a career high 30 points to go with five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Bordas put together a career performance on Sunday, leading Duquesne to an emphatic 84-69 home victory at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse. The guard from Wheeling, W.Va, exploded for 38 points against Pitt in the programs’ “City Game” matchup, draining 10 3-pointers. Bordas shot 11-of-22 from the field, 10-18 from behind the arc, and 6-of-6 at the free throw line. She also added five rebounds, five assists, and two steals. The Dukes pulled away with a significant push from Bordas’ dominant stretch, scoring 14 points in the third quarter. Bordas’ 38 points marked the sixth most in program history, while her 10 3-pointers ranked second.
