Mincy Named Under Armour Player of the Week; Lewis Claims Second Rookie Accolade

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason junior Kory Mincy the Under Armour Men's Basketball Player of the Week. VCU freshman Nyk Lewis was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Nov. 24-30.
 
Mincy averaged 23.0 points, 3.7 assists, 1.0 steals and shot 53.8 percent from the floor in three wins for George Mason last week. The Sunshine Slam Most Valuable Player also went 12-of-25 from 3-point range (.480), 15-of-15 from the free throw line and sported a 5.5 assist/turnover ratio, surrendering the ball just twice across the three games. Mincy, a guard from East Point, Ga., opened the week with 22 points, four assists and a career-best six 3-pointers in a win over Ohio. Then in the championship game of the Sunshine Slam, he notched 22 points on 7-of-12 (.583) from the field and 3-for-5 (.600) from three and a team-best five assists in a win over Florida Atlantic. He wrapped up the week with a game-high 25 points on 8-of-15 (.533) from the field, two assists and two steals in a win over in-state rival James Madison.
 
Lewis averaged 11.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals, while shooting .417 as the Rams went 2-1 at the Battle 4 Atlantis, with wins over South Florida and Virginia Tech. The guard from Washington, D.C, scored 11 points with five rebounds an assist and a steal in the USF win and was 3-for-5 (.600) from the field for seven points, four rebounds an assist and a steal in the win over the Hokies. His best game scoring came against No. 24 Vanderbilt, where he provided 16 points and two assists. It was Lewis’ second Rookie of the Week award this season.

Had a career-high 25 points while making 7-of-10 from 3-point range … Frank Mitchell was sensational for St. Bonaventure, averaging 16.0 points with two double-doubles in a 2-1 week, with 17 points and 12 rebounds versus East Carolina and 13 and 11 at Florida Atlantic in a pair wins … Deuce Jones scored 17 points with nine rebounds in Saint Joseph’s win over Princeton, part of a 13.5 points per game, 8.0 rebounds per game week … SJU freshman Austin Willford was nearly perfect from the field, hitting 2-of-3 (.667) in a win over Rutger-Camden and 3-of-3 (1.000) in the Princeton victory to total 15 points last week … Trey Green led Saint Louis with 21 points in a victory over Santa Clara, followed by 15 points with six rebounds in a heartbreaking buzzer-beater loss to Stanford.
