WASHINGTON — Davidson, Saint Joseph’s and VCU combined to sweep the major Atlantic 10 field hockey awards, which were announced Wednesday. The five major accolades, along with the All-Conference teams, the All-Rookie team and the All-Academic team, were selected based on regular season play.
Davidson’s Sib Naaktgeboren was named A-10 Offensive Player of the Year. Milou Kluyt from Saint Joseph’s garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors. VCU’s Emma Clements was voted Goalkeeper of the Year, and her freshman teammate Lina Behrmann was selected as Rookie of the Year. Davidson’s Zoe Almquist was chosen as Coach of the Year. The major awards, All-Conference Teams and All-Rookie Team were voted on by the A-10’s head field hockey coaches. The All-Academic team was selected by the field hockey media relations directors.
Naaktgeboren leads the Atlantic 10 and is eighth nationally in point per game (2.56), and she leads the league and is ninth nationally in goals per game (1.11). A senior from Zwijndrecht, Netherlands she is also ninth in the A-10 in assist per game with .33. She was a three-time A-10 Offensive Player of the Week selection this year, and was also named to the All-Conference First Team and the All-Academic Team.
A junior defender from Goirle, Netherlands, Kluyt started all 18 games on defense. She helped lead a Hawk defense that held opponents to just 7.5 shots per game and 4.33 per game in conference play. Her work helped SJU to be the second-stingiest defense in the conference. She also scored twice in the Hawks' win over La Salle and served as a team captain this season. She was an All-Conference Second Team and All-Academic selection as well.
A redshirt sophomore from Fredricksburg, Va., Clements is fourth nationally and first in the Atlantic 10 in save percentage (.815), and she ranks second in the league and 10
th nationally in goals against average (.98). She also led the league with eight shutouts this season. She was also named to the All-Conference First Team and the All-Academic Team.
Behrmann, a Hamburg, Germany, native, ranks eighth nationally and leads the Atlantic 10 in assists per game (.88) and she’s fifth in the Atlantic 10 in points per game (1.24). She was a two-time At-10 Rookie of the Week this season, and was also named to the All-Conference First Team and the All-Rookie Team.
Almquist earns her first Atlantic10 Coach of the Year honors after leading the Wildcats to their first A-10 Championship berth since 2015. The Davidson coach since 2019, Almquist led the ‘Cats to a 3-3 record in league play and a 10-8 record overall, the best overall mark since 2011. It’s also the second-best A-10 record in 11 years in the league. Almquist was a four-year letterwinner at Northwestern, where in 2011 she earned her degree in mathematics.
The awards were announced ahead of the 2025 Atlantic 10 Field Championship that begins Thursday with Richmond, VCU, Saint Joseph’s and Davidson playing in the semifinals.
