RICHMOND – Fifth-seeded Duquesne won a hard-fought 3-1 (26-24, 26-24, 13-25, 25-21) quarterfinal match over No. 3 George Washington, taking three close sets Friday afternoon at the Siegel Center.
The Dukes (18-12) will face No. 2 Loyola Chicago Saturday in the semifinals at 2:30 pm.
Duquesne’s Emersen Schrom led all hitters with 19 kills and recorded a double-double with 12 digs. Alexis Rodriguez and Cayla Cogan recorded 18 and 13 kills respectively for GW.
Sets one and two were back and forth affairs the entire way, with the Dukes securing the victory on a kill by Schrom and an attack error on the Revolutionaries at the end of each set.
The Revolutionaries (19-12) battles back in set three with a decisive victory, with three of the final four points going GW’s way on kills from Cianna Tejada, Carsyn Henschen and Cogan.
The final set seemed to be in Duquesne’s hands with a 24-15 lead on a GW attack error, but the Revs reeled off six straight points before a Schrom and Jordan Robertson block secured the win for the Dukes.
