WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington senior Rafael Castro and Saint Louis sophomore Amari McCottry as the Under Armour Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. Davidson freshman Nick Coval was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Nov. 10-16.
Castro had an ultra-efficient week, averaging 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 76.9 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free throw line. The center from Dover, N.J. opened the week by scoring 15 points with eight rebounds and a career-high five assists versus American, adding two steals and a block in 22 minutes. He made 4-of-7 from the field and 7-of-9 at the charity stripe. He then tallied his first 20-point effort of the season Saturday against ODU, making all six of his field goal attempts and adding a season-high nine rebounds to go along with three steals and a block.
McCottry led the Billikens with 21.5 points per game last week. He also brought down 7.0 rebounds and averaged 3.0 assists. In the win against Lindenwood, McCottry led the way with a career-best 23 points. He followed that up with a 20-point outing in the quality win over Grand Canyon. A guard from Milwaukee, McCottry also played exceptional defense on the Lopes' Nana Owusu-Anane, who finished well below his scoring average.
In two wins for Davidson, Coval scored 31 points, shot 64 percent from the floor, was 11-for-11 from the free throw line, and added 4 assists. A guard from Orefield, Pa., Coval scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting with three assists and three rebounds in helping the Wildcats retain the Hornet’s Nest Cup versus Charlotte. He then tallied 17 points with five rebounds in a win over Bowling Green.
