Ramblers Take First Road Trip to Wichita State

CHICAGO - Loyola Chicago takes its first road trip of the season to Wichita State. The Ramblers and Shockers are set for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off on Thursday in Wichita, Kansas. Loyola looks to snap a two-game skid, while Wichita State is undefeated.

Sunday's game can be watched on ESPN+. The game can also be listened to Rambler Sports Network with Scott Sudikoff (PXP) and Christian Thomas (Analyst).

RAMBLINGS
• Loyola went 1-2 to open the 2025-26 season last week. The Ramblers beat Cleveland State at the buzzer in the opener before Mercyhurst and North Texas took wins against them.
• Justin Moore led the Ramblers, averaging 14.3 points per game through the first three games. He dropped eight in the first game before scoring double-figures in the next two. He had a team-high 25 vs. Mercyhurst with 10 to follow vs. North Texas.
• Moore also leads the Ramblers in assists, averaging 5.3 per game. He dished out a season-high eight assists vs. the Lakers.
• Deywilk Tavarez stepped up big for Loyola in the win vs. Cleveland State. He had seven points in the final 18 seconds, including the three to win the game at the buzzer. He dropped 16 points in the win and went 5-7 from three-point range.
• Tavarez got the starting nod vs. North Texas where he finished with 11 points.
• Joining him in the line-up for the first time ever was Chuck Love III. Love tallied 12 points and seven rebounds vs. the Mean Green. He dropped a season-high 14 points vs. Cleveland State.
• Miles Rubin has been steady for the Ramblers to start the year. He scored 16 vs. Cleveland State and Mercyhurst. He added nine vs. North Texas.
• Rubin leads Loyola in rebounding (5.3) and blocks (3.3)
• Rubin is nearing the all-time block record with 171 and counting. The current record stands at 176 set by Andre Moore back in the 80s. Rubin already holds the top two spots on the single-season list.
• The Ramblers were tabbed fifth in the Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll and received two first-place votes.
• Rubin was tabbed to the Preseason First Team and All-Defensive Team. The preseason accolades come after two consecutive All-Defensive nods for Rubin. He started all 37 games last season, averaging 9.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.3 blocks per game. His 71.4 field goal percentage set a single-season program record.
• Loyola is coming off a 25-12 campaign last season that saw a trip to the NIT semifinals in Indianapolis. The Ramblers finished 12-6 in A-10 play and beat No. 5 Saint Louis to advance in the A-10 Tournament where No. 1 VCU bested Loyola in the semis.
• Head coach Drew Valentine is in his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a 84-53 overall record as head coach.

SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
The Shockers are 2-0 to open the season and are coming off its first 100-point game since 2021. Wichita State defeated Prairie View A&M last week, 105-62. They won their opener vs. UNC Asheville, 75-58. The Shockers were tabbed fifth in the American Conference preseason poll and return just three letterwinners from last season.

Kenyon Giles leads Wichita State, averaging 17.5 points per game. He dropped 20 in the opener on 8-16 from the field. He followed up with 15 vs. Prairie View on 5-9 from the field. All five were from behind the arc.

Paul Mills is in his third season at the helm. He holds a 36-34 record with the Shockers.

SERIES HISTORY
Wichita State leads the all-time series, 27-9. The Shockers have won the last 11 meetings.
