WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference selected La Salle sophomore Alexis Garcia as the Under Armour Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Richmond sophomore Veronica Rrapi received Defensive Player of the Week honors. Saint Louis freshman Caroline Chier was named the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Oct. 6 - Oct. 12.

Garcia, a forward/midfielder from Toms River, N.Y., propelled La Salle to a 5-1 victory over George Washington with three goals and an assist, a seven-point performance. With the game tied 1-1 after one period of play, Garcia put the Explorers in front with a goal in the 50^th minute, adding another in the 55^th minute to expand the gap. Garcia needed just 19 more seconds to score her third goal, completing the hat trick over just a five-minute span. Garcia found Kameron Rase for another score just three minutes later, putting the result well out of reach.

Rrapi anchored the Spider defense with a stellar effort in goal, recording five saves to secure a 0-0 draw on the road against Loyola Chicago. The sophomore goalkeeper from Monroe, Conn. turned away multiple point-blank chances, including key stops in the first half to keep the match level. Richmond became just the second A-10 opponent this season to shut out the Ramblers’ attack.

Chier helped lift Saint Louis to a 2-1 victory over Duquesne on Sunday, contributing an assist on the Billikens’ deciding goal. The freshman midfielder/forward from Webster Groves, Mo. connected with Nina Preusser for the home team’s second goal of the day. Chier has racked up six assists during her freshman campaign, tied for the most in the A-10.
