WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Massachusetts junior Megan Olbrys as its Under Armour Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. La Salle freshman Joan Quinn was named the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played on January 13-19.
Olbrys averaged 21.5 points per game, shooting a remarkable 89.5-percent from the field in a 1-1 week for UMass, where they defeated La Salle and fell to Saint Joseph's. The Norwood, Mass. native had a career-high 22 points in the win on 7-of-8 shooting, while going 8-for-10 from the line with a career-best nine rebounds and four assists. In the following game against Saint Joseph's, Olbrys tallied 21 points on 10-of-11 from the field with four rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals. The Minutewomen are 4-3 in the Atlantic 10.
Quinn led the Explorers with 14 points per game against Massachusetts and George Mason. The freshman converted on 10-24 shots while adding three steals and four rebounds. The Newtown Square, Pa. native had 13 points against UMass and 12 points against George Mason, going 5-for-12 from the field in each contest.
