Edwards, Diggins Share Player of the Week Honors; Jones Repeats as Rookie

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne junior guard Maximus Edwards and Massachusetts senior Rahsool Diggins the Under Armour Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week. La Salle freshman Deuce Jones was again chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Jan. 13-19.
 
Edwards averaged 19.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals as the Dukes went 2-0. The guard from Stratford, Conn., shot an impressive 77.8 percent (14-for-18) from the field, including 66.7 percent (8-for-12) from beyond the arc. He led the Dukes in scoring in a win at George Washington with a season-high 22 points, and he added a team-high 17 points in a triumph over St. Bonaventure, coming came off the bench in both games.  He hit all six of his shots in the first half in the win over the Revs, scoring 13 consecutive points as part of a 16-4 run and he also tied a career high with four steals at GW. He then scored 12 points in the opening 20 minutes versus the Bonnies, including triples on consecutive possessions.
 
Diggins averaged 31.5 points over back-to-back league wins for the Minutemen, earning the Lute Olson National Player of the Week selection from CollegeInsider.com. The Philadelphia guard scored 46 points in a triple overtime win over Fordham. The 46-point performance ties for the eighth best single-game total in A-10 history and it marked the most points by a visiting player at Rose Hill Gymnasium, surpassing all-time UMass great Julius Erving's 37-point performance in 1970. The performance tied for the most points ever scored at the facility, tying Kenny Charles just one day shy of Rose Hill Gym's 100 anniversary mark. Diggins followed the record-breaking performance with 17 points and four rebounds in a key 22-point victory over La Salle.
 
Jones averaged a team-high 18.5 points, alongside 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. The guard from Trenton, N.J., played a critical role in La Salle's 17-point comeback victory over Davidson, scoring 20 points on 8-of-13 (.615) shooting with five assists and three steals. He then had 17 points, four rebounds and three assists against UMass. This marks the fourth A-10 Rookie of the Week honor for Jones this season.

Reed Bailey scored a career high 30 point, and averaged 25.5 points per game for Davidson, including dishing out 11 assists at Rhode Island, to put him one rebound shy of a triple double … Enoch Cheeks scored a career-high 26 points in Dayton’s Loyola-Chicago win, along with seven rebounds and five steals, making 10-of-14 (.714) from the field, including 6-of-9 (.667) … UD freshman Amaël L’Etang scored the game-winning points in Dayton's overtime win over Loyola, receiving a 55-foot alley-oop pass from Malachi Smith, softly laying it in with just 0.2 left on the clock to cap an 11-point … Darius Maddox averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, shot 53.8 percent (14-of-26), including 6-of-11 (.545) 3-point attempts on the week … Loyola Chicago’s Des Watson helped the Ramblers to a 1-1 week, averaging 19.5 points on 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from the field, 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from 3-point range, and 83.3 percent (5-for-6) from the line, adding 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game … Sebastian Thomas hit a 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds to go to lift Rhode Island over Davidson, scoring 22 points with 10 assists for his third double-double, with no turnovers playing all 40 minutes … Robbie Avila had a big week for the Billikens, leading them in scoring with 21 points per game as with a team-high 24 points versus Richmond with team-high nine rebounds, followed by a team-best 18 points and eight boards at VCU … Jack Clark averaged 15.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in VCU’s wins over Saint Louis and Saint Joseph's last week, while shooting .588 (10-of-17) from the field and .556 (5-of-9) from 3-point range.
