Kenney, Mitchell Earn Cross Country Performer of the Week Honors; Santiago, Hansen Receive Rookie of the Week

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced Massachusetts senior Will Kenney as its Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week and George Washington junior Sarah Mitchell as its Women’s Cross Country Performer of the Week. Loyola Chicago freshman River Santiago was named Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Klara Hansen was tabbed as the Women’s Cross Country Rookie of the Week.
 
Kenney was the individual winner at the Ken O’Brien Minuteman Invitational for the second straight year. Kenney, from Essex, Mass., finished the 6K course in 18:17.73. UMass placed in first with 17 points followed by Central Connecticut (53), third-place Boston University (75), and fourth-place Northeastern (96).
 
Santiago completed his first collegiate meet at 15:01.3 to finish in first at the North Park/ UC Early Invitational. Santiago, from Blaine, Minn., completed the race nearly 10 seconds faster than the second-place winner (15:10.7).
 
Mitchell achieved a first-place finish in a head-to-head race with Georgetown. Mitchell, from Gary, N.C., set a personal record in the 5K race with a time of 17:29.
 
Hansen placed second overall in her UMass debut, which also led the Minutewomen. Hansen, from Rønne, Denmark, completed the 4K Ken O’Brien Invitational with a time of 14:03.08. UMass took first place with a team score of 23 points.
