How it Happened
Rhode Island held off a mature, athletic Bahamas Select squad 89-81 Thursday to cap a 3-0 week at the Baha Mar Summer Hoops League.
The teams played up-and-down basketball all night before the Rhody defense helped put the game away. The Rams allowed just one field goal over the final 7:58, allowing URI to close the game with a 14-5 run to close things out. Quentin Diboundje scored four points down the stretch to help lead the late surge.
The game was close throughout, with the largest lead by either side being a nine-point edge for Rhode Island late in the first half.
Inside the Box Score
- Center Javonte Brown had yet another strong game in the middle leading Rhode Island with 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting. He added eight rebounds and was 5-for-7 at the line while playing a team-high 33 minutes.
- Brown averaged 17.0 points and 8.7 rebounds during the three games at Baha Mar. He was 20-for-26 from the floor and 11-for-14 at the line.
- Guard Jamarques Lawrence added 20 points and was 4-for-9 from the arc.
- Guard Quentin Diboundje had his third double-digit scoring performance of the trip, finishing with 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. He averaged 12.7 points per game.
- Guard Jaden House was the fourth Ram in double figures, chipping in 12 points.
- Guard Sebastian Thomas filled the stat sheet with seven points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block.
- Forward Tyonne Farrell once again did a lot of everything, scoring eight points to go with six rebounds, five steals, four assists and two blocks.
- Over the three games, Farrell had 11 steals. Rhode Island has not had a player with five steals in a game since Jalen Carey did so against Duquesne in the 2021-22 season.
- Drissa Traore had six points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- As a team, the Rams had 19 assists and 13 steals. The most steals URI had in a game last season was 11.
- Rhode Island scored at least 89 points in each of the three games on the tour and averaged 92.7 points per game overall.

Rhode Island sets its sights on the 2024-25 season. The non-conference portion of the schedule will be announced on Monday, Aug. 12.
