Bozek Named Softball Player of the Week, Hockman, Hayward Earn Pitcher, Rookie

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason senior Marlaina Bozek its Softball Player of the Week. Saint Louis junior Taylor Hochman was chosen as the league’s Pitcher of the Week and George Washington first year Paige Hayward earned Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for games played Feb. 26 – March 2.
 
Bozek's consistent batting helped Mason get two crucial wins over the weekend, as she slashed .615/.667/.692 and recorded multiple hits in every game except one, where she went 1-for-2. Batting second and playing second base, the Washington, Pa., native went 8-for-13 (.615). with one double, three runs scored, two RBI, two walks and a stolen base. She led the Mason over the weekend squad in average (.615), on base percentage (.667), slugging (.667), and hits (8).
 
In three complete games at Austin Peay's Governors Classic, Hochman posted a 3-0 record and a 0.70 ERA. She allowed just 15 hits (only two for extra bases) and five walks (1.8 per seven innings) in 20 innings for a 1.00 WHIP. Hochman registered the first 7-inning shutout of her collegiate career versus Ohio, tossing a 4-hitter in a 1-0 win, and gave another clutch performance in the Billikens' 2-1 victory over Austin Peay. Only one of the two runs The Frankfort, Ill., native allowed in an 11-2 win over Indiana State was earned.
 
Hayward made four starts in four games against Stony Brook and Cornell, registering three multi-hit games. She posted an impressive 1.384 on-base plus slugging (OPS) and had a highlight reel diving catch. An Outfielder from Torrance, Calif., Hayward was 7-of-13 (.528) at the plate, collecting six RBI, a home run and a double.
