WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis junior Natalie Sullivan as its Softball Player of the Week. Fordham graduate student Devon Miller was named Pitcher of the Week. Saint Louis freshman Isabel Royle was selected as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for games played February 12-18.
Sullivan led the Billikens with a .600 batting average (6-for-10) at Tennessee State's Roar City Invitational. The Moscow Mills, Mo. native hit safely in all three games, including a three-hit effort vs. Tennessee State. Sullivan scored three runs, added two walks for an .667 on-base percentage, posted a 1.367 OPS, and struck out just once in 12 plate appearances.
In 16.0 innings pitches at the Silicon Valley Classic this weekend, Miller gave up just nine hits and just one earned run, while striking out 10 batters, and earning the win in one of her two starts, a complete game victory over Santa Clara. The Chadds Ford, Pa. native led the Rams to wins in both of the games she started this weekend, allowing just one earned run combined in both starts. Miller now has a 1.43 ERA on the season through six appearances.
Royle went the distance and collected her first collegiate victory in the circle in a 5-1 win over Indiana State. She struck out 11, allowed just six hits, did not walk a batter, and retired the last 10 ISU batters she faced. The Sun Prairie, Wis. native also tossed 2 2/3 strong innings of relief vs. UT Martin, fanning four and yielding just one run (unearned) and one hit. For the tournament, she struck out 15 in 9 2/3 innings (10.9 per seven innings) and allowed two runs (one earned), seven hits and one walk.
