WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton junior DaRon Holmes II its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Joseph’s freshman Xzayvier Brown was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week for the second week in a row. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 12-18.

Holmes averaged a double-double -- 26.5 points and 10.5 rebounds -- in two Dayton wins. The forward from Goodyear, Ariz., had 24 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals against Duquesne on Tuesday, and 29 points, 10 rebounds and three assists versus Fordham on Saturday. He scored 20 of his points in the second half of the Fordham win -- 11 of Dayton's first 13 second half points and nine of Dayton's final 12 (including the last five). After each of the three times Fordham came behind to tie the game in the game's final 14 minutes, Holmes scored a bucket to take back the lead. Holmes made 10 field goals in each game, including shooting .769 (10-of-13) versus Fordham. It’s the fifth A-10 Player of the Week award for Holmes, all of which have come since the beginning of January.

Brown averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists per game on the week for Saint Joseph's. At Loyola Chicago on Wednesday, the Philadelphia guard poured in a career-best 29 points, grabbed a team-best seven rebounds and added three assists, two steals and a block. He followed with eight points, six rebounds and a season-best five steals at Duquesne. Brown's 29 points on Wednesday at Loyola Chicago were the most by a St. Joe's freshman since Jameer Nelson scored 34 against George Washington on January 10, 2001. This is the third A-10 Rookie of the Week award for Brown, who also won last week and once in December.
