WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis junior Sincere Parker its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Joseph’s freshman Xzayvier Brown was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Feb. 5-11.
Parker led the NCAA in total points last week with 67, averaging 33.5 points per game over two road games at La Salle and at Saint Joseph's. He combined to shoot 22-of-33 (.667) from the field, 8-12 (.667) from 3-point rage, and was a perfect 15-15 from the stripe. The guard from Rockford, Ill., exceeded his career scoring high in each game with 33 points at La Salle and 34 points at Saint Joseph's. He also added a career-high-tying nine rebounds against the Hawks to finish one rebound shy of a double-double. Parker averaged 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the two games. His high scoring came despite averaging only 22.9 minutes per game, including just 18 in the 33-point effort against the Explorers.
Brown averaged 21.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists, helping the Hawks to a 1-1 week. Against No. 18/17 Dayton on Tuesday, Brown finished with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. A guard from Philadelphia, he followed on Saturday with a career-best 27 points, including the game-winning free throws in the final seconds against Saint Louis, while adding seven assists, five rebounds, two steals and zero turnovers. He was 11-of-14 (.786) from the line versus the Billikens.
