WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond junior Maggie Doogan as its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Massachusetts freshman Yahmani McKayle was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played December 2 - 8.
Doogan averaged 20.5 points per game, seven rebounds per game and 2.5 assists per game against a pair of top-80 opponents in Georgetown and Columbia. In the Spiders win over Columbia at the Henrico Sports & Events Center Sunday, Doogan posted 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting, to go with seven rebounds and four assists. Against Georgetown, a game that saw Richmond lead until a heartbreaking buzzer beater from the Hoyas, the Broomall, Pa. native had another 20 point game, going 7-of-14 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line to go with seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals. A Preseason First Team All-Conference selection, this is Doogan's first Player of the Week selection since November 27 of last season.
McKayle had 13 points, three rebounds, three asissts, two steals, and was 3-for-4 form three off the bench in 81-50 win over Northeastern for the Minutewomen and tallied 19 points, for rebounds, for assists, two steals, and was 6-for-10 off the bench in 67-56 win over Dartmouth. The Queens, N.Y. averaged 16 points per game to lead UMass to a pair of wins this past week.
