WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Dayton redshirt senior Enoch Cheeks as its Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Joseph’s freshman Dasear Haskins chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Nov. 25 – Dec . 1.
Against three Top 12 teams at the Maui Invitational, Cheeks averaged 15.7 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting .548 (17-of-31) from the field and .474 from three. The guard from Providence, R.I., scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds in a two-point loss to No. 12 North Carolina, and added 16 points and six rebounds in a five-point loss against fifth-ranked Iowa State. In the Flyers' third game in three days, he scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a win over second-ranked UConn. He made 8-of-12 (.750) field goals and 3-of-5 (.600) 3-pointers. He scored 10 of his 20 points in a three-minute span as UD took the lead from single digits to 16 with just over a minute to go.
Haskins had a breakout game with a career-high 15 points on 6-of-8 (.750) shooting including a trio of 3-pointers as the Hawks downed Coppin State in their only game of the week. The guard from Willingboro, N.J., ignited the St. Joe's offense from the bench as his back-to-back offensive rebounds led to five SJU points that began a 11-0 run midway through the first half to open up the game.
