WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Mason sophomore Kennedy Harris as its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. Saint Louis freshman Mia Bergstrom was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played Nov. 25 - Dec. 1.
Harris averaged 25.5 points per game last week at a .514 clip over two games in the Navy Classic. In the first game against #10 Maryland, the sophomore put up 26 points at a .476 clip. In game two, against Navy, she nearly matched the day before, putting up 25 points, this time at a . 571 clip. The Hampton, Va. native went 9-for-15 from the three-point line and averaged 5.5 rebounds across the two games too. Harris also tallied her first block of the season on Sunday, as well as logged four steals over the weekend. She was named to the Navy Classic All-Tournament Team. This is Harris' first career Player of the Week nod. She was a four-time Rookie of the Week last season.
Bergstrom averaged 18.0 ppg last week as the Billikens beat Cal Baptist 82-70 and hung tough against No. 6 USC before eventually falling 104-65. For the week, she shot 56.5 percent from the field (13-23) including 10-of-18 from 3-point range (.556). The Mount Prospect, Ill. native hit five 3s en route to 17 points in the win over Cal Baptist. The freshman followed that up with five more 3-pointers as the Billikens were within striking distance of USC for much of the first half. She ended up with a career-best 19 points against No. 6 USC.
