WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne senior Megan McConnell as its Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. St. Bonaventure freshman Caitlin Frost was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played December 9 -15.
McConnell averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 steals, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and a 5.0 assist/turnover ratio in leading the Dukes to a pair of victories and stretching its winning streak to six consecutive. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native also shot .600 percent from the field and .467 percent from behind the arc. McConnell began her week, scoring 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor while colleting six rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while burying a pair of triples in the win. The senior guard ended her week by posting her first career 30-point game, totaling a career-high 35 points on 14-of-21 shooting from the floor. The Preseason All-Atlantic 10 selection carded a career-best five three-pointers and collected a career-high nine steals while dishing out six assists and four rebounds. McConnell leads the A-10 in scoring at 19.2 points per game while leading the conference in assists (5.7) and steals per game (4.4). This is McConnell's third career Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor.
Frost tallied a career-high 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go along with two rebounds, a block and a steal in 31 minutes in the Bonnies lone contest against Albany. The Les Coteaux, Quebec native is averaging 10.3 points per game.
