WASHINGTON - Returning home for final exams after a true road win at Old Dominion, GW men's basketball kept its perfect mark alive at the Smith Center this season in a 75-60 win against Army, on the eve of the historic, annual Army-Navy football tomorrow.
Trey Moss carried the load for the GW Revs in the opening 20 minutes, pouring in 13 points, highlighted by 3-of-6 3-point shooting, to push the Revolutionaries to a 35-29 halftime lead.
Army made an early second-half run to take a brief lead, but GW responded in kind and after a Christian Jones three-pointer and Darren Buchanan Jr. lay-in in quick succession gave GW a 12-point lead with just over five minutes to play, an Army timeout ensued. George Washington then threw the knockout punch when a Gerald Drumgoole triple and Rafael Castro slam put the home team up 17, so the final minutes saw George Washington cruise.
Moss went on to lead the team in scoring and assists 19 and five, while Castro double-doubled with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Buchanan and Drumgoole matched Castro with a dozen as well while Jones gave GW five in double figures with 11.
GW's 3-point shooting was the difference maker, shooting nearly 40% with 13 threes. Moss (4-of-9), Jones (3-of-5) and Drumgoole (3-of-8) were all locked in from deep. Army, meanwhile, was held to 5-of-30 (16.7%) from beyond the arc.
George Washington stays home for finals and the upcoming holidays, finishing off the semester with a pair of home dates next week: Wednesday the 18th vs. Lafayette at 7 p.m. and Sunday the 22nd vs. UVA Wise at noon, both on ESPN+. Conference play then commences at Richmond on New Year's Eve.
