SAINT LOUIS – Top-seeded Saint Louis scored a goal in each half and kept No. 8 Davidson off the scoreboard to top the visiting Wildcats 2-0 in the Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals Saturday evening at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens (11-1-6) advance to the semifinals, and will host No. 5 Saint Joseph’s Wednesday at 8:00 pm ET/7:00 pm CT.
Lucie Schwartz put the regular season champs on the board in the ninth minute with a shot to the lower left of the goal, giving Izzy Luebbert, who set Schwartz, an assist on the play. It was the only one of the Billikens 15 first-half shots that crossed the line. In all, Saint Louis totaled 27 shots, seven of which were on target. Schwartz had three total shot attempts, with a team-high two on goal.
Lyndsey Heckel added an insurance goal on a penalty kick to the bottom right of the net in the 59
th minute. Heckel matched Schwartz with three shots.
The Wildcats (8-7-3) fired five total shots, two of which were on goal, with Aleia Gisolfi-McCready tallying a team-high two attempts. Emily Smith had five saves in net for Davidson.
Emily Purcelli stopped two shots from ‘Cats attackers, registering the clean sheet for SLU. Emily Gaebe had five shots, Hannah Sawyer fired four to lead the home team.
